Second Game

The Game Against MMU 4ths postponed

Wednesday 22 October 2008

First game of the season

So Salford mens 3rd's away, not the easiest start to the season, but UCLan came out on top with a scrappy 4-1 victory.

Skipper Fenley picked a strong starting line-up for his first competitive match in charge, with a mixture of old and new, and after an excellent first half the skipper was happy with his team selection.
Rich Lun put UCLan ahead, before a quick Chris Riley brace put UCLan 3-up at half time.
After the break French student Mathieu grabbed the 4th before Salford got a consolation when there striker calmly slotted through Rati's legs.
After the game Fenley spoke highly of his team saying "We hadn't played together before so I am very happy with the win."
Keeper Stanislav Rati had an exceptional game and kept the away side in the game before the breakthrough, which was a greatly crafted Lun free-kick from 40 yards. Riley then added a quick brace before being substituted after picking up a niggly injury. The final UCLan goal was taken brilliantly by Mathieu, after a great run by Aaron King.
The game was a scrappy affair but it was good to see the 5ths get off to a great start with Fenley wanting them to go through the season unbeaten, and has said he has the potential in his side to do that.
Fenley added "The overall attitude of the side was great, Salford tried kicking us off the park at one stage, the ref bottled giving their man a red after Bensley was kicked."
Salford Picked up four bookings in the game, whilst UCLan came home with no cards.

Trial Period

UCLan 5th's had an exciting trial period with more and more people wanting to get involved in the football team, although the quality wasn't as good as previous years.
After a few pre season losses the team have now got the hunger to start the season and this could only be a good thing for the newly appointed skipper.
Captain Jack Fenley had a team in his mind from last year but when midfield maestro Kyle Reardon was snapped up by the 1st's squad Jack had to find a replacement midfielder of equal quality. As well as a new keeper, centre half, right sided midfielder and centre forward have also been drafted into the squad.
With a solid back four and Dan Catlow in front of them it free's up players like Olly Pritchard and Graham Younger to go forward and support the strikers.
Fenley has high hopes for his side who play Salford 3rd's away in their first BUSA league match of the season.
